The Newnan-Coweta Historical Society was organized for the following purposes:
"To
promote interest in the historical background and heritage of Newnan
and Coweta County, Georgia, and to develop this historical background
and heritage to the cultural, economic and social advantages for the
entire county.
To disseminate information and ideas that will facilitate and
encourage the development of the historical significance of Newnan
and Coweta County, and to that end, promote the progress and
improvement of the civic, cultural and educational life of the
community; to foster the interchange of thought and ideas among its
members and the public having to do with the historical significance
of Newnan and Coweta County, Georgia; to provide a medium for the
expression of aims and aspirations of the people of Newnan and Coweta
County that will reflect the best thinking and planning of the
development of the heritage and historical tradition of the life of
this area, and provide an agency through which the people of the town
and county may voluntarily pool their energies to accomplish an
organized and developed establishment for the furtherance of
historical values contained and made a part of Newnan and Coweta
County , and to all things needful and necessary to accomplish these aims."
The above statement was written in 1971 when the NCHS was founded,
but holds true today.
